To commemorate 21st Feb. as the International Mother Language Day the KMC has decided to build a replica of the ' Bhasha Shahid Smarak' opposite to the Birla Planetarium. Hon'ble Chief Minister of W.B. Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the replica on Feb.19,2015.
Initially the replica would be a fibre glass sculpture which later on would be made of bronze . The entire project is running under the guidence and planning of eminent sculptor Sri Jogen Chowdhury and next year this ' Bhasha Uddyan' would be ready with 'Bhasha Shahid Smarak'.
To pay respect and homage to the martyrs of the Bhasha andolan of Bangladesh the United Nations declared 21st Feb. as the International Mother Language Day.
The Civic body henceforth would celebrate 21st Feb. as the Bhasha Shahid Dibash at the Bhasha Uddyan. Besides building this replica KMC has decided to beautify the entire area with fountain, trees landscaped in alphabets, Hindi, English, Urdu, Nepali etc.
